Our History

The professional office IGS from engineer Santoro works mainly in the fields of geotechnical consulting in civil engineering and structural design. It takes part in numerous research programs, following Eng. Santoro’s training phase in the field of mechanics of earth and applied geotechnics at La Sapienza University. During this period, IGS takes part in numerous designs with Professor Giorgio Croci’s office in Rome and becomes a partner through SPC and Tecnocontrolli companie.

IGeS becomes true when the engineer Santoro decides to take advantage of the experience gained from working in his own professional office, IGS, and Professor Giorgio Croci’s Studio of Rome. The first activities were in geotechnical field as consulting services for Civil Engineering and in structural design. Indded, IGeS transfers to its projects all the knowledge gained in the numerous research programs conducted at La Sapienza University in mechanics of earth and applied geotechnics.

The activity abroad begins with projects in Cambodia, in Central Asia, in India, in the Middle East; a new office is opened in Siem Reap – Cambodia for restoration projects in Angkor and training programs are started for local technicians in this country.
The activities of Consolidation and Conservation of monumental and historical buildings are consolidated. A new department is established and the activities are exported.

The company grows and expands with infrastructures in Italy and with civil engineering design and restoration abroad. During this period IGeS holds projects in : Albania, Iran, Chad, Egypt, Peru, Syria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Nigeria, Senegal, Korea of the North, France, Honduras, Turkmenistan, Romania, Albania.
The restoration of the Main Towers of the Pre Rup Temple – Angkor – Cambodia is completed and the restoration of damaged parts of the West Bakan and of the west embankment of the Moat of the Angkor Wat Temple in Cambodia is underway.
At the end of the war in Iraq, restoration projects are begun in Iraqi Kurdistan in Erbil and IGeS has been invited to offer its services. Soon after, the restoration project of a Watchtower of the Citadel of Bam, Iran, devastated by the destructive earthquake of December 2003 is carried out.
The decade closes with IGeS’ participation in two important projects in Rome: the MAXXI project of Rome – National Art Museum of the 21st Century and Rome Convention Center – La Nuvola.

First actions are taken based on the consolidation of the positions acquired in the previous twenty years and on the research of new markets, such as Kenya and East Africa, Poland, Peru. Idea Kenya is established with headquarters in Nairobi.
New areas and activity are launched such as the use of renewable energy with an environmental sustainability vision. The first air-conditioning system based on low-enthalpy geothermal systems is designed and built in Cambodia.
Numerous designs of wind farms and water facilities are carried out for Enel Green Power in many areas of the planet, as well as two electricity production projects with geothermal sources, in binary cycle and minimum environmental impact in Italy and Chile.

The national and international recovery has revealed new opportunities and IGeS has initiated the development of diverse innovative proposals in the energy sector, sewage treatment plants, treatment and purification of water from natural water sources, especially at the international level.
The company takes part in the design of numerous environmental requalification interventions for contaminated by industrial production plants or waste landfill sites.
Nowadays IGeS is working on a major water infrastructure project in Afghanistan, one of the largest dams in the nation.
